Microneedling Eclipse MicroPen
Basic Science Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, rejuvenates the skin through controlled micro-injuries to the skin itself. The procedure, indeed, triggers the skin’s repair process which stimulates the production of fresh, new tissue. Accordingly, the laydown of new collagen, elastin, and new capillaries leads to the effect of skin tightening.
As a result, the procedure results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of:
- Softer wrinkles and lines
- Smaller and finer pores
- Diminished scarring and hyperpigmentation
- More uniform skin tone and texture
- Improved skin health and circulation
- Ultimately fresher, glowing skin
Microneedling, furthermore, can be used in combination with BBL HERO, MOXI, HALO, ClearSilk and ClearV for synergism. In other words, using other light and/or laser techniques together can give faster and better results in a shorter period of time.
Mechanism Microneedling
Where can microneedling be used on the body?
The treatment can be used on all parts of the body including:
- face
- neck and décolleté (a low neckline on a woman’s dress or top)
- arms and hands
- abdomen and back
- legs
How is microneedling done?
A sterile needle-tip containing many tiny micro-needles is attached to an advance motorized base unit. Then your doctor will apply a thin layer of topical gel to your skin and determine the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the targeted treatment area has been covered. The procedure can last 30-60 minutes depending on the treatment goals.
What does microneedling feel like?
The sensation most associated with microneedling is the feeling of light sandpaper moving across the skin. Some areas like the forehead are more sensitive than others. However, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip and the applied hydrating gel drastically reduce discomfort and increase tolerable to the procedure.
When will I see result?
Some patients notice a glow to their skin immediately after the procedure. Then, over the course of several weeks, the patient will see visible changes to the skin. Please keep in mind that years of skin damage cannot unravel quickly since dermal collagen remodeling occurs over time. Results continue to improve up to six months after the treatment.
Is there any downtime?
The total healing time depends on the aggressiveness of the treatment (selected needle depth and number of overlapping passes). Most patients notice a sunburn-like effect with redness for 1-3 days following the procedure. The skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. The treated skin also may appear darker than the surrounding skin but should flake off within 1 week. Please allow the old skin to flake off naturally by not picking or exfoliating the area. On average, patients experience redness for two to four days. Some patients heal completely within 24 hours.
What are the microneedling aftercare instructions?
Please always wash your hands thoroughly before performing the following instructions to avoid infection:
- On days 1-2 after the procedure, use lukewarm water to cleanse the face and dry the area gently without rubbing.
- On days 3-5, wash the face with a gentle cleanser, like Cetaphil / Cerave wash.
- On days 6+, resume normal routine.
Additional things to avoid:
- Avoid using makeup products for the first 12 hours.
- Refrain from sweaty exercise and sun exposure for 72 hours.
- Avoid other invasive facial aesthetic/cosmetic treatments for one month after the procedure.
How many treatments will I need?
For most patients a series of 3-4 sessions spaced about 6-8 weeks apart is suggested.
For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, a series of 6-8 sessions at 6-week interval is recommended.
How do I maintain the results?
To maintain the results of your initial series of microneedling treatments, you should get microneedling treatments 2 or 3 times a year. The maintenance appointments will refresh your skin and help maintain the amazing results that you have hopefully seen!
What are possible contraindications for microneedling?
